This set of 10 question cards has been designed to offer breadth and depth to Year 2 gifted and high potential learners of Australian Curriculum V9 AC9M2N03: recognise and describe one-half as one of  equal parts of a whole and connect halves, quarters and eighths through repeated halving.
 
How to use these cards:
 
These cards are intended to replace the set class tasks.
 
Session 1
Introduce the topic to the whole class.
Offer end of unit assessment for all students.
Those who achieve 80% or higher move onto these cards.
Session 2
Introduce a card during small group work.  Students can then continue working on the task.  Please remember, due to asynchronous development or additional learning needs, they may require support with executive functioning skills such as organisation, time management, defining and achieving goals as well as other skills like reading, writing, researching, accessing resources etc.
** Due to the hands-on nature of these tasks, an adult such as a parent, carer or aide is recommended to be available to support the students if the teacher isn’t able to.  A Teacher Guide is included. Graphic organisers for experiments, board game creation and the design process are available for free to download to assist students to work independently and to provide scaffolding. (Please send an email after purchase for which graphic organiser/s you'd like and it will be sent to you, free.)
 
** It should be noted that no ‘end products' are suggested on these cards.  This is to take into account the needs of gifted learners who benefit from choice in how they demonstrate their understanding and present their findings, preferably to a real world audience.  They may also have a suggestion for a different task that relates to the content descriptor so allow time for them to explain.  If you’re in need of ideas for what students could produce, the free ‘End Products’  list is available.
